The Dream of One Night by Renfair

Rated: MA18+ • 20 Reviews starstarstarstarstar
Summary:

2008 HPFF Dobby Finalist
Regardless of what others may think of him, Severus Snape is a brave man. However, a Dark secret in his past makes him fearful of what could happen if he gives into the feelings he is developing for his apprentice, Avrille. What he doesn't know is that her love might just save his life.

--Set in the Chamber of Secrets year and closely follows the flow of the book. Slight AU since I decided the plot before HBP was released. Please review, I always respond!--

Awesome chapter there! The Revenant's really messing with him now. I hope he doesn't believe it.. he really can't. Avrille and Lucius.. he can't think that had ever happened. Poor guy, with the Revenant messing with him. Oh, and I'm not sure if I this was the right reaction, but I kind of laughed when Avrille said James asked her to marry her. Avrille/James - don't think so. How terrible for Snape though - he better not even think that's true. I'm glad Severus's mother is still hanging on - Avrille better figure this thing out soon. Another great chapter here - the next chapter looks really long, but I'm sure I'll be reading it soon!

Okay, I don't know what took me so long to get to this chapter, but I'm finally here and this has got to be the best chapter so far. I've been looking forward to this one for a long time and it didn't disappoint at all.

Avrille saving Severus was just amazing. I knew she would end up doing it, but the way she did it was great. You can totally tell from this how much she loves Severus and even how much Charlotte fought to keep her grandson alive. For some reason I thought Charlotte came from Snape's mother's side, but I guess not. I loved the description of the house.. as always your details really tell the story and put me in the position. I felt like I was watching a movie, following Avrille along.

I just love Avrille/Sevvy and I love how you've made the couple. You've made me fall in love with Severus so much and I'm sad that there's only two chapters left. Maybe that's why it's taken me so long to come back - I've been waiting to savor some Snape/Avrill-ness.

Oh, and I loved Snape's reaction to the whole pregnancy thing. Yay.. he's excited about a baby! I know it won't even matter that she'll have to end the apprentage because she'll have Sevvy and she'll have his baby and everything will be alright. Yay.. awesome chapter! I love this story!

I have such a huge smile on right now. Yay! But boo for the last Sevvy chapter. I can't believe this is coming to a close after everything you've taken these two through. I loved the part with Dumbledore - I think you really got his character right. I was wondering if he was going to say anything about the wedding.. hehe that part was cute, as well as that whole conversation. I had a feeling that Dumbledore had noticed and I loved how he recognized that it was around Christmas time that their relationship started. That man is pretty brilliant. Man, one more chapter to go. As always, great chapter!

I love happy endings! Okay, so it's not the perfect happily ever after ending, and I didn't expect it to be since there is a lot going on with Voldemort rising, but it was as close to happy as it could get. I loved it. I loved this whole story and I really can't believe it's now over. :( I really hope you write a sequel.. I just can't part with Avrille and Sevvy yet. And they had their baby.. yay! I know Sevvy will be an awesome father. I love how he's really protective - you don't want to mess with him or his child. I don't think Voldemort could come between him and his son or his love for Avrille.

So this story was awesome and I think you're an amazing writer. I'm ready to see your name on a book cover one day.. really I think you can do it and make me fall in love with another set of character. For now, wonderful job with this story and I hope you continue to write. This was the perfect ending for me!

There was nothing here that could save her now. Nothing would protect her. Not him. Not her magic. Fantasy and reality had collided long ago and this, the constant paranoia, was the result. Wow, this is already so wonderful, just like your other stories. I'm not exactly sure what's going on yet, but I love the interaction between Teddy and Victoire and the desperation in both of them. I love how you've characterized them so far and I love your writing. Off to read more!

Wow, I would have never thought of a Teddy/Hermione ship. It's interesting and I look forward to seeing more of it. I'm not sure I like it yet, but that's because I love Teddy/Victoire so much that it's just difficult to think of them separated. I really want to know what's going on with Victoire because again, I'm confused with that part, though I like that I'm confused. I like that you just jumped into the action without explanation. I like being able to figure things out going along. Great job so far and I'm looking forward to more!

You really are a great writer and I love your work. It's so unique and I loved this take on the Lily/James ship. I loved James's opinion on things and I loved how it all came together at the end. Great story!

Author's Response: Aw, thank you so much! It means a lot to me that you think I’m a good writer, and I’m so happy you liked the story! This and Parallel Lines are the only James/Lily stories I’ve written, and I’ve enjoyed it quite a lot. Thanks again, Jamie!

Author's Response: Thankies, Labby. Such a nice review you gave me. For that, you get giant hugs :D I am really glad you liked this fic. I kinda adore James Jr. in this. My best character ever...apart from Salma, that is *blushes* Thanks again for reading and reviewing!

Wow, that was a wonderful story! I really enjoyed reading it and reading your Snape. I absolutely love Snape/Lily and you did such a good job with him. I hope you've written more Snape stories, I really love the way you've written him. His character seems to close to canon, and you just feel for him with the abuse and his wanting of Lily. I thought you did a good job with Lily's character too.. and I did like the comment where James ruined it, even when he wasn't present. It's so sad to know what actually happened after their years at Hogwarts. The house really divides them, but they care so much about each other. This story's so sad, but excellent! I loved it!

Author's Response: Thank you!  I'm sorry it's taken me so long to respond to your lovely review, but it warmed my heart when I read it.  Snape is my canon character of choice to write about and I appreciate your kind words about how I've written him.

That was a beautiful story. I thought the lyrics went really well with it and I thought it was really well written. It's so sad, but at least there's a bit of hope at the end. I think Lily/Snape is such a great ship, and you were able to show how Snape really cared for her in this. Very emotional story! I loved it!

Author's Response: I\'m glad you liked it, Jamie. :) I was never much for Lily/Snape (mostly because I never gave it a chance), but this was something I just really wanted to write and it went with their characters. Thank you so much for reviewing! I really appreciate it. :)

I've been meaning to read this for awhile and I really like it so far. It's interesting to think what Dumbledore's family life was like and I think you've done a great job so far. It's sad that Ariana doesn't really recognize Albus, but it seems right for that to happen. I also like that this is showing the not-so-good side of Dumbledore, kind of showing that he wasn't perfect from the beginning (or at the end for that matter). You've created a nice picture of teenage Dumbledore so far and I'm looking forward to more!

This is a great start! I really like the voice of Melody.. you've created a really good character so far! I also love that she's a Hufflepuff! Puff pride here. :) I think from the beginning you get an all around good mood of the story with the time thing. Sounds exactly like my friends and family. I think it was a good introduction, without being too much of an introduction.. the characters qualities weren't all just laid out. I see that all too often. I do like her family a lot and it will be interesting to get to know them. I hope we'll get to see more of Madison.. she seems like an awesome little sister. So I really do like this so far and I'll definitely be looking for more!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for reviewing so quickly! I'm glad you like it. And thanks for noticing the lack of a typical intro...one of my pet peeves is when someone spends the first chapter discribing everyone's looks, personality, etc. I definetly appreciate the "show, don't tell" policy! And there will definetly be more Madison. I originally had her in Gryffindor, but I like her so much I changed it to Hufflepuff so we can see more of her. Anyway, again thank you! It's such a relief that someone likes it since this is my first fan fic!

I love those completed scenes of what we have learned from the book, but haven't been presented. Squee... that was adorable! I loved it! I've only read a couple of stories where Andromeda is even in the story, and I loved how you characterized her and how Ted came out to be the one to help her. I didn't suspect him at all. It was really cute for such a short story and I thought you did a good job at showing their relationship in so few lines. Great job!

Author's Response: Aww, thank you, Jamie! *hugs* Andromeda is, sadly, an underappreciated character in fanon. One of the many reasons I love her and Tedromeda. Haha, I thought Ted being the perpetrator was painfully obvious! But that's one of the perks of fluff, everything's pretty obvious but oh so sweet! :D Haha, thank you so much! *hugs again*

Aww.. I really liked this. I love how you wrote a story about Winky and you made her character so interesting and better than she was when we last saw her. I'm glad to have gotten sort of a final word on Winky and what she did when she found out that Dobby died. I loved the part where Kreacher didn't accept that Harry was dead because he felt him. That makes a lot of sense because Kreacher is Harry's elf, and I love that you added that detail in. I loved the ending as well, where Winky was able to avenge Dobby. Wonderful story!

Author's Response: Thank you for the kind review.  It always makes my day to get any reviews.  I originally wrote this story for the writer's duel on HPFF, otherwise it actually would have been longer.  I'm really glad that you liked how I wrote Winky in this story.  I always thought that a House Elf would know for sure if his master was dead, especially in a case like Kreacher's where Harry would have died intestate.  Suddenly, Kreacher would have been freed and I think he would know that.  I never accepted in DH that Molly could have defeated Bellatrix in a straight up duel, and I don't buy the rage makes her stronger angle...Rage only distracts you.  Thank you again for the kind review.
