This is really good.

You don't often see quality musings into the mind of the "bad guy", but you've captured Gellert very well here.

Wow. This is very powerfully written. I have not read anything from Grindlewald's perspective that even remotely approaches this level of talent. I was very impressed, and I was moved by the level of self-realization Gellert has reached. He finally understands himself and his failures, and doesn't carry that anger or defiance anymore. That he still thinks of Albus fondly is lovely. Superb story.

I loved this philosophical journey of Grindelwald and his thoughts. I haven't read a story at all before that centers around Grindelwald and you make his character real and forgiving and the words and description you use make the story so fascinating. I like that he reflects about Albus so much in his time and that he knows what's going on at the ending. Wonderful story here!

I was half way through this when I realized I've read it on HPFF.  I think I reviewed it over there as well...but it really is phenomenal and deserving of a second review.  This is dark, and yet, you get a since of light at the end of the tunnel.  If Grindelwald could come to see the error of his ways, then there is hope for the world.  Sadly, Voldemort won't see the error of his.

You do a great job with imagery, so many possible to choose from, but this one Loving eyes see no evil, but even Albus couldn’t pretend the black veil I engulfed the world in didn’t exist. It was he who assisted me in beginning my endeavor, and it was he who put an end to it.  That's just beautiful.  Well done!

Author's Response: thanks again!

The philosophical tone of this short piece drew me in. I love that you view Grindelwald as reflecting on his past life, realizing that pride can never attain lasting meaning or good for humankind. I really feel his sense of enlightenment about this fact and also his sorrow mixed with acceptance at having made his choices and having to live with the consequences.

I like it that he still feels fond of Albus even though he was the one to defeat him. I like it that he sees Albus as the beginning and the end of his dark quest.

The symbolism, word choice, and deep thoughts throughout this make it a truly enjoyable and worthwhile read.
