Chapter: Chapter 1
Very nicely done. I'm seeing a connection between Harry's situation and Sirius'. Harry found a 2nd home with the Weasleys and Sirius with the Potters. A home that they probably both wished they had growing up but were deprived of for similar but varying reasons. They each found a family who would accept and love them. It was also nice to see the bond with James & Sirius. I can see Sirius being a loner when he was younger to come to Hogwarts and find a best friend in James. Again, like Harry and his friendship with Ron. When you find a friend who will stand up with you through thick and thin it's a bond like kinship but even stronger.
You have a way of getting into a character's head and putting it writing in just the right way. I also liked the part when James arrived and showed Sirius affection while still in dog form. Again so much like Harry. It's amazing how both characters turned out so well even though deprived of basic affection for so long in their life.
Author's Response: I think the issues of tragic childhoods were very much a theme for JK. She contrasted Harry and Sirius with Severus and Voldemort's situations, showing how two went one way and the other two went darker and twisted. Snape came around, but was still bitter and broken. I really wanted to show the bond that caused Sirius to just be led away after witnessing James's death. He'd lost the reason to fight without a family. I try to get inside their heads, and also JK's, to try and shed light on a certain situation. I always want to keep them canon, because that's why I do this. I just wanted to continue my little Harry Potter addiction, and she had the nerve to end the series! *Hugs to you* for reviewing! Thanks Judy!

Chapter: Chapter 1
This is so beautiful. I'm actually crying right now, and that doesn't happen often... it's SO well done. I've always wanted to see a good portrayal of their friendship, and I think this is the best I've ever found. It's so real and so moving... I really hope to see you write more, because you truly have a way with words.
Blaire
Author's Response: Thanks so much! I wanted to show how deep the bond of friendship went and why. Not many people's death would cause you to lose your mind and allow yourself to be led off to Azkaban for a crime you didn't commit. James was the only person to ever love him for who he was, and the only family he ever had. I am so glad you were moved by this. It is my first one-shot. I am working on more!

Chapter: Chapter 1
This whole episode, about Sirius running away from home and winding up at the potters was rather swiftly passed over in Canon, wasn't it?
This fills in the gaping hole in the patchwork quilt that is the background of Harry Potter's life. James and his parents were very special people and Harry inherited the same compassionate nature.
And NOTHING gets past Albus Dumbledore. Hermione may be an insufferable know-it-all, but Dumbledore is a shameless busy body!
HE!HE!HE!
Author's Response: But that shameless busybody took care of everyone, didn't he! I got this idea after watching the movie for the zillionth time, seeing the part where Sirius shows where his mother burnt him off of the family tree tapestry. He then briefly mentions running away at 16, and going to James's house. I took the inspiration and ran with it! Thanks so much for the review!

Chapter: Chapter 1
What a beautiful story! Truly breathtaking. This paragraph really moved me: Without a word, James emerged from the fog like an answer to a prayer, sat down beside the dog, and scratched its head. Before making the change back into himself, Sirius reveled in that small act of affection. In his entire life, James Potter was the only person that had ever touched him in a way that wasn’t meant as punishment. The pat on the back, a hand on the shoulder, a high five, or a handshake at the end of term. James had no idea the impact these seemingly meaningless demonstrations of friendship had been to a boy that lived a life cursed and shunned by those who were meant to love him. If for nothing else, he would always be grateful to James for that much.
Really, this was a lovely piece into the moment when Sirius and James really became brothers. You managed to evoke the feelings of hurt and desperation, and yes salvation that Sirius was feeling during this time. And Dumbledore always knew everything didn't he?
Author's Response: Thanks so much. I was struck by inspiration after watching OoTP for the zillionth time with my girls. The part where Sirius tells Harry he'd run away at 16 to live at James's just stuck with me. I wanted to show that bond they had, and why the death of James struck him so hard. James was his family. I appreciate your lovely review!
