One of our own is very ill and needs our help. I've known Angie for 20 years and she has been a part of my fanfiction life for this entire time.

We love you, Angie! The GoFundMe Link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-angie-dawn-through-a-medical-crisis-5f448

From the GoFundMe Page:

"My name is Jessi, and Angie has been one of my closest friends for more than twenty years. With the support of our friend Mimi, I’m organizing this fundraiser at the request of Angie’s partner of more than a decade, Dawn.
If you already know Angie, you probably don’t need me to explain why we’re doing this.

If you don’t, let me introduce you to our Angeface.

Angie is possibly the most stereotypically Canadian person I have ever met. She loves The Tragically Hip. She says “sorry” exactly the way you’re imagining. She is deeply introverted until someone she loves needs her, and then somehow she becomes the person who shows up, takes care of everyone, feeds everybody, and makes sure they’re okay.

She writes. She crochets and cross-stitches. She cans things and bakes things and makes things for people she loves. She loves books, mysteries, Stephen King, board games, pets, cooking enormous holiday meals, and gathering her people around a table to eat and laugh.

She is also extremely selective about the people and things she gives her energy to.

But when Angie loves you, she loves you fiercely.

And for more than a decade, Angie and Dawn have built a life around exactly that kind of love.

For the past several years, Angie has been dealing with increasingly serious health problems. Her lymphedema began approximately two years ago and has progressively worsened, with much more serious complications developing this year. She has been unable to work because of her illness, and over the last several months, her health has deteriorated significantly.

For more than six weeks, Angie has been in and out of the hospital and ICU.
Several weeks ago, she developed a severe infection and became septic. Doctors spent weeks treating the infection and then trying to stabilize dangerously low blood pressure. She was eventually able to return home, but only briefly.

Last week, Angie returned to the hospital after developing severe pain and swelling in her right leg. Within days, her condition changed dramatically.
On Friday, doctors told Dawn that Angie was critically ill and required emergency surgery. Before they intubated her, I was lucky enough to speak to her.

She was terrified.

And because this is Angie, and because this is us, we still managed to make each other laugh.

That evening, surgeons performed an emergency above-the-knee amputation of Angie’s right leg.

Because of the significant swelling and fluid in her tissues, surgeons were unable to close the amputation site. They were finally able to close the wound on Sept 5th, but Angie remains intubated and in a medically induced coma in critical but currently stable condition.

The current plan is for Angie to return to surgery Tuesday. Doctors will determine whether they are planning to amputate her left leg because it has begun showing the same frightening signs that appeared on the right.

Her medical team is monitoring her extremely closely.
There is no clear prognosis right now.

What Dawn and the people who love Angie have been told is simply this:
Prepare yourselves. This is really very bad.

There is concern that Angie may not survive to Tuesday’s surgery, through the surgery itself, or the recovery afterward.

But Angie is here.

And right now, we are staying right here with her.

While all of this has been happening, Dawn has been carrying another impossible weight.

Angie has been unable to work for the past couple of years because of her illness. Dawn lost her job several months ago, and as Angie’s health deteriorated, finding new employment became increasingly difficult because Angie needed more and more care.

Dawn became her caregiver.

They have been surviving on extremely limited government assistance and barely scraping by for much of this year.

Now they are approximately two months behind on rent, utilities, and internet.

When Dawn asked Mimi and me to help create this fundraiser, she told us something that I think matters:

She didn’t want to ask.

She doesn’t like asking for help.

But she is two months behind, the financial stress is overwhelming, and right now she simply cannot focus on anything except Angie.

So we are asking for her.

Our immediate goal is to cover their existing household arrears and approximately two additional months of basic living expenses, including rent, utilities, internet, and groceries.

That means giving Dawn something incredibly simple and incredibly important:

Room.

Room to sit beside Angie without calculating rent in the back of her mind.

Room to listen when the doctors speak.

Room to make decisions.

Room to grieve and hope and be terrified and exhausted.

Room to simply be Angie’s partner instead of simultaneously trying to be her caregiver, hospital advocate, financial crisis manager, and everything else this nightmare is demanding of her.

Our initial need is approximately $6,500 USD ($8,800 CAD), covering:

  • two months of past-due rent, utilities, and internet

  • two additional months of rent, utilities, and internet

  • approximately two months of groceries

Funds raised through this GoFundMe will go directly to Dawn to help keep their household stable while Angie remains critically ill.

If Angie’s condition or their needs change, we will update this fundraiser transparently so everyone who helps them knows where things stand.
If you are able to donate, thank you.

If you aren’t able to donate but know Angie, Dawn, or someone whose life has been touched by them, please share this fundraiser.

Angie has spent decades building family everywhere she goes. Biological family. Chosen family. Friends across Canada, the United States, and far beyond.

She is deeply, fiercely loved.

And right now, when there is very little any of us can do to change what is happening inside that ICU, this is something we can do.

We can take one impossible thing off Dawn’s shoulders.

We can give her room to stay beside Angie.

And we can surround them with the same kind of fierce love Angie has spent her life giving to everyone lucky enough to belong to her.

For Angeface. For Dawn. One impossible thing made a little lighter."

Welcome and requests for suggestions

by Elena @ 25/02/2022 07:22 am
Welcome to the new members that have signed up to Gluttony. I hope you find a new home here. While the forums are open, activity is very low. Please utilise this space if you want to, poke your friends, and make Temperance your home away from home. With that said, I have Gluttony and Temperance because of my own love of Fanfiction and wanted to share that with likeminded people. This space is for fans, so please don't be afraid to email me or pop over to the forums to suggest or provide feedback. I will accommodate this space however necessary to help suit your needs and if they fall in scope of the rules and TOS. I hope you enjoy your time at Gluttony, no matter how brief or long your stay is :)

Hi and Welcome to Gluttony :)

If you are just signing up for the first time an email is sent to your email address with a temporary password, so please ensure you are signing up with a valid email address.

The email should be from admin[at]gluttonyfiction[dot]com - please ensure you add this email address to your allowed lists and check junk folders if no email arrives.

I just ran a test and the service is working as it should.

If you have any questions or issues you can either email me at the above address or ask on the forums :)

Temperance - The Forums

by Elena @ 22/06/2021 04:18 pm
Over the next few days I'll be fixing the forums. I noticed I had a glitch for registering and that has got a fix in place now.

No matter if you are an original member, a new member, or thinking about joining - This place is here for you all. This site was made by a fan for fans to enjoy. Even if you just read and review the stories we have here. They are all made by wonderful, dedicated authors who have a love for writing.

I hope you find a new home here and if there's anything you'd like to see here or on the forum, please let me know.

Featured Stories Update

by Elena @ 22/06/2021 02:53 pm
I have updated the Featured Stories list. These stories were selected as they are in my 'Most Recent' list and they don't have any reviews :(

Please show these authors and stories some love and read and review.

HPFF

by Elena @ 22/06/2021 05:49 am
Well, it would appear that HPFF has announced they are closing again and migrating stories to A03.

Gluttony will help as many authors as possible. You can transfer your stories here if you like and I'll work to get them submitted. I have no way to store reviews though :(

Featured Stories and Temperance

by Elena @ 09/05/2021 06:56 am
I have finally updated the Featured Stories list and will keep that going. This month I have a spotlight on Dramione because it's Mother's Day today here in Australia, and I love Dramione :)

I also have a poll running about Temperance, which is Gluttony's Forums. I haven't had traffic in quite some time, so trying to see if people still like using forums.

HPFF

by Elena @ 01/01/2020 05:19 pm
I started out in Fan Fiction on HPFF and was sad when Jay announced he was closing the site.

Today, it has a new life with new owners and new rules. While I cannot host Smut due to laws in Australia, HPFF is now accepting Smut or NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stories.

I hope to see you guys there:

Goodbye 2019, hello 2020 :)

by Elena @ 31/12/2019 01:27 pm
While we celebrate moving into a new decade, my country is on fire. Lives have been lost, history has been destroyed, and families are homeless.

There isn't a "Happy New Year" for many people in Australia today.

So today I thank the men and women who are throwing themselves in front of these fires to protect people, homes, history, businesses, and animals.

thankyou

Merry Christmas

by Elena @ 24/12/2019 05:30 pm
I hope everyone enjoys their holidays and stays safe. See you all in 2020 :)

This site is down at the moment. It's a known issue, so some banners may not work until it is fixed.

Tinypic

by Elena @ 14/09/2019 04:25 am
Tinypic is shutting down. Please replace your graphics as needed as I will have to. By the end of the month, all broken images will be removed, or as I find them.

R.I.P. Morgana

by Elena @ 03/09/2018 09:52 am
It is with great sadness that I write these words. Morgana or Morgana67 on HPFF passed away suddenly. Losing one of our own hits hard as I've known Morgana for many years and we were friends on social media too.

I have Featured her stories as we remember her words, her passion, and inspiration that she shared with us. You are welcome to leave messages for her in the reviews section.

HPFT - Different Archive

by Elena @ 02/05/2018 10:00 am

With the closure of HPFF, there is also another archive that is active with a small community of people. Check it out if you like as you may gain a new audience or find an old one.

HPFT

You can try out HPFanficTalk (or HPFT). It has a multi-fandom/OF archive and a Harry Potter-themed forum (including a year-long house cup and common rooms for each house). There are a lot of reviewing events and review request threads on the forums, as well as a tool to help any authors who used to publish at HPFF and backed up the reviews people left them there transfer those reviews over to HPFT's archive pretty painlessly.

The archive is moderated, but there's no limit to how many chapters you can put in at once and the archive staff are usually pretty fast at working through it. They're pretty permissive in what they allow, provided the right ratings/advisories are attached to the story, and they're very friendly and happy to help (including adding fandoms/characters/pairings that aren't on the archive yet if you have a story for it). They're also very active on social media.

Emails and Changes

by Elena @ 12/04/2018 10:25 am

Hi there :)

My computer died and I did not have my gluttony email set up on my laptop, so I'm sorry if there is any delay in getting back to you. I've figured out how to access my webmail and filtering through the spam. I'll get it set up tonight so I don't miss any more emails, so I do apologise.

If there is anything on Gluttony that needs changing to accommodate your stories that doesn't conflict with the ToS, please let me know. Recently, a member brought it to my attention that I had a maximum word count so their story wouldn't post. This has now changed to no maximum words.

HPFF closure

by Elena @ 08/04/2018 02:28 am
If any HPFFers would like transfer their stories from HPFF to gluttonyfiction.com, I am happy to validate your stories right away to avoid queue backlog. I'll check that your story is on HPFF, and if so, validate your stories straight away. If you were a Trusted Author there, snapshot that to me and I'll grant you the same access. This is a one time offer and I'll keep it open till HPFF closes. My ToS is similar to HPFF, so I have no hesitation in this offer.

Otherwise, I DO HIGHLY recommend HPFT and AO3.

Changing Servers

by Elena @ 07/11/2017 03:16 pm

Gluttony and Temperance will have some down time as I move the site to a more economical hosting server. I apologise for any inconvenience and will let you know when the site is ready to go.

Best Author: ginwannabe - Choosing this category was hardest. There are so many wonderful authors on Gluttony so I chose based on the most favourited author. This also accompanied my decision along with Taryn's participation over the years in competitions and also helping with the site.

Best Reviewer: By far the easiest to decide upon, Holly Ilex with a massive 790 reviews on Gluttony. Holly was also always part of Gluttony's review-a-thons and I always looked forward to seeing her reviews. Thank you :)
